Sick poem
It’s Laura. I recently found this poem which I think is sick. I don’t know who it is by but if you do, please let me know so I can give proper credit for where it’s due.
I gave the hero of this story trust
issues. So that when his castle fell he
wouldn’t worry about the damsel still
calling from the ramparts, where I hold court
in the dust. For this is my battlefield
where the headstones will read like love letters
and the weeds will serve as the royal seal.
I gave the hero of this story hope
a magic bean and two old china cups.
But the china, brittle, the bean rotten
as these once fertile lands lie waterlogged.
You can’t grow your crops here, boy, go home.
I’ll drown this hero before he can stand
the sight of the muddy bank. A hero’s death.
I gave the hero of this story bread
water, and melody. To help him sleep
soundly and noiselessly, still. Arms, pillows
sway to the metronome of the city
beating such a heroic retreat. Stand
with fingers touching, childlike and brave.
Until the next wave comes and holds. It breaks.

Friday Night
Hey,
It’s Laura here, and I know Ashley and Stacy haven’t posted their little intros but I couldn’t wait to post again. I’m sitting in Sonias’ room after we had a great night out with the sororirity we’re both rushing, Sigma Delta Tau. I never thought I’d be the type of girl to rush for a sorority but here I am in the midst of it. And I’m really enjoying it too.
These girls really know how to live life successfully. They know how to go out and enjoy themselves while remaining smart college girls. And I cannot possibly stress how sweet they are.
Sonia and I went to their informational and then were convinced to hang out at their sister social for a little bit. We played some card games, laughed, danced, and overall had a good time, despite how tired we were.
See, the reason why I never thought I’d join a sorority is because growing up, I was never the girl to be expected to. I was somewhat of a misift, caking on make-up until I was ghostly white and had ‘raccoon eyes.’ My favorite band was, and still to this day is My Chemical Romance. Who, in the past haven’t gotten a nice rep from the media and other non-fans.
So you can see I was a little bit out there. But I always sought refuge in activities like twirling (which I was Captain my senior year), and also volleyball (which I played from sixth grade to 11th grade).
Mostly though, I found refuge in words. Words always come out right for some reason. I was never one to be able to talk eloquently and hold a decent conversation. I’d always come out awkward and shy. However, when writing, I feel as if the impossible is possible. Cheesy, I know, but you’ll learn to love my positive outlook on life hopefully as much as I do.
Since this post is getting a little out of hand I will wrap it up. I’m learning so much at college that I can’t even begin to explain how much I enjoy it. I love learning, even if it is tangible learning. Sometimes when you’re lost you find your way in the most unexpected of places, and I found my way through New Paltz. <3
xoxoLaura
Face Crabs?!
- Heyyy, talk to us. We're real college girls. Not slutty fake ones. Thought you should know the difference. =)
I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.
In the beginning…
Since this is our very first post we thought we should at least be polite and introduce ourselves. Us four girls have known each other since August 20th, 2009, the day we moved into college. Sooo here’s a little about each of us and what you can expect in the future.
‘Ello, ‘ello! I’m Laura, 18, FEMALE, haha, and I attend SUNY New Paltz along with the other girls writing this blog. I’m originally from Long Island, New York, and cannot tell you how much I appreciate going away to college. My intended major is journalism and buisness which I cannot declare until my fourth semester here. I’d love to be able to tell you all this cool stuff about me but the truth is I just ain’t hot shit XD. I obviously have a family, a Mom, a fresh off the boat from Italy father, an older sister named Stephanie and an older brother named Paul. And I cannot forget my cat Joey, who you will learn in time is an asshole. I have two roomates, Ashley and Stacy and we all love each other and live in messy crazy hole in the wall AKA Bliss 110. You’ll probably be hearing a lot from me since I absolutely love to write and procrastinate a lot. :)

holler ya’ll! I’m Sonia, 18, but don’t always act like it (or so say some people). obvs, i’m a girl. and no i won’t show you, so don’t ask :P i’m a freshman at SUNY new paltz with the rest of the girls, as laura already said. I’m from jersey, but NO i’m not one of those jersey shore creeps. as much as i like that show, i’m just NOT like that. college life is pretty cool, i mean i miss my family back home, but i’ve kinda found a new family up here (cheesy i know, don’t judge). it’s kinda nice having my own space up here, or as much space as i can have with roommates. i’m a music therapy major, with a concentration in composition and a double minor in spanish & history. i’m super into martial arts; black belt. what, what! i live down the hall from the other three girls, Bliss 102. i’m sure i’ll be on this thing alot, considering i have lots of time and not always much to do, and besides, i just like ranting about things that go wrong during my day =]
